Charleston SC August Blog

August 2014 has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays, and 5 Sundays.  So get out there in Charleston and enjoy your weekends! Annual Tax Free Weekend starts on the first Friday of August.  The best way to enjoy the Dog Days of August is at the beach or a baseball game.  Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, and Kiawah were named among the top 10 Southern Beaches by USA Today. I would suggest lunch at Rita’s on Folly, Poe’s on Sullivans Island, or the Ocean Course at Kiawah. Keep cool at the Riverdogs baseball games on the 3rd and the 17th, which are Seersucker at the Joe Nights.  Seersucker and Madras are the only clothing of choice during the dog days. Loretta Lynn will be at Boone Hall on the 22nd and Crosby, Stills, and Nash will at the N Charleston PAC on the 12th.  The Lowcountry Jazz Festival starts on the 28th.  The Southern Bridal Show is at the Convention Center on the 17th.

Travel and Leisure Magazine has once again named Charleston as the best city in the US and Canada and the 2nd best city in the world. CNBC says we’re the 10th Cheapest State to live in. And Conde Nast readers voted Charleston in the Top 5 Food Cities in the US.  New restaurants are popping up daily downtown.  Stay aware of all Charleston dining by checking out the local Eater Nation food blog.

Charleston has been voted #1 US city by Conde Nast Magazine for 3 years in a row and Travel and Leisure just ranked us #10 most romantic city. Here’s a YouTube video on our Conde Nast achievement:
